WHO WE BE

National History (est. 1999)

On October 1, 1999, the concept of Delta Kappa Delta Sorority, Incorporated came to fruition at the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas. At that time, Texas A&M University boasted a 40,000 plus student population, with less than five percent categorized as minorities. B.E.T.I.S., Behind Every True Indian Sxster, was created as a grassroots service organization prior to obtaining the Greek letters of Delta Kappa Delta (ΔKΔ). The National Founding Mothers realized the need to unite, serve, and educate the campus and community. Developing this vision proved to be arduous, but it also began the creation of a bond between thirteen young ladies that will stand the test of time. Through B.E.T.I.S., these women were able to spread and strengthen their ideals to other women on campus and begin to create a legacy. In addition to serving the community with enthusiasm, the National Founding Mothers emphasized excellence in Education, Culture, Community Service, Indomitable Spirit, and Sxsterhood.

Delta Kappa Delta Sorority Incorporated has grown tremendously since its inception, stretching its desire to serve to several cities across the United States: including several cities in Texas, the Midwest, West Coast, and East Coast. These multicultural women have dedicated their hearts and souls to Service and Sxsterhood, exemplifying the concept of “Sxsterhood Built through Service”. Through our goal for a brighter future, we begin our work with the purest of hearts - that of a child. In time, we hope that our work will benefit our communities and provide a lasting and prosperous future.

Charter History (est. 2016)

Ten UMass students had a vision to make an impact on the world. None of them truly realized how difficult the process of establishing a charter would be. During their association process, the associates faced many setbacks and several failures. It was easy to feel isolated being all the way in Western Massachusetts - away from any other colonies or chapters. Regardless, the girls felt a deep connection with the values reiterated by the sxsters of Delta Kappa Delta all across the country. Guided by their RA's and Bigs from across the country, the associates persevered through all the struggles they faced from solely online and faceless connections. In the beginning, they struggled to keep up, but they had faith in their passion, faith in themselves, and faith in each other to persevere and rise above the circumstances to pursue their dream of founding the first South Asian service sorority at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. Their united dream came from many backgrounds: some wanted a closer South Asian community on campus, others wanted to devote themselves to community service, some wanted more. No matter what, the girls were unified in their pursuit of their dream. An arrow can be shot only by pulling it backwards. In this way, the girls were able to learn from their past mistakes, rise above the challenges and finally make their dream a reality through hard work and perseverance. From all they learned, the now-official sxsters of the Founding Line make sure to stay true to their original aspiration to join this special family. They want to make sure the sorority is open to anyone willing to follow the precedent set by the National Founding mothers - regardless of nationality, ethnicity, or socioeconomic background. They want to keep their purpose pure and committed to making the world a better place, helping empower children and women all over the world for a better future for all. Held together with the strong bonds of sxsterhood and service, we know we can achieve whatever we put our minds to.
